Lawry's Bzzagent Review

Look what was in my mailbox today!
not pictured is the Lawry's apron and coupons.
Yup, I already tried the season salt and balsamic herb marinade, on our steaks last night.  They sat in the marinade for 2hrs then we grilled them.  It was delicious.  Here's a pic of my dinner and part of my steak.  My husband used season salt on his corn on the cob as well.  I'm going to try the balsamic on chicken breasts tonight.

“I received this product from BzzAgent. I was under no obligation to review it or to say anything specific about it if I did. Everything I’ve written about the product is my own opinion.”

Old Navy Active Wear Bottoms Review

I am always in search of a comfortable, functional and flattering everyday look. I got the opportunity to try a pair of active bottoms.  My pick was a pair of fold over yoga capri's.  Talk about comfort.  I am in between sizes.  5-6 in jeans depending on the brand.  The medium fit a little saggy on my back side, so I decided to go with the Small.  Which did slightly shrink after the first wash, but not enough to ruin the look.  I had a baby 4 months ago and my body is just beginning to feel normal. I still have concerns about my midsection.  The fold over pant does a perfect job of slimming my mid section.

I am not an active workout person with three little boys.  I am an active stay at home mom that spends most of my days trying to stay comfortable. And always running around.   I also got three other coupons to share.  My sisters each chose a different pair and so did my best friend.
I will post back with pics of all there pants.  It took longer than we thought trying on pants with our kiddos at Old Navy on a Saturday.

Here's my post on how I scored these freebies.

10 tips for keeping your family safe on the road

The heat is rising, the kids are finally out of school and we are officially in Summer Vacation mode.  We are in full swing with finding ways to keep our kiddos busy and planning those fun summer vacations.  The one most important factor to include in your agenda is keeping your family safe on the road.  Thanks to Safelite and Social Moms I have put together my ten most important tips to keep your family safe on the road.

Tip one, get that vehicle in tip top shape and start from the inside out.  I do a complete sweep of my car cleaning out everything.  With a family of five we can accumulate the most random things that don't need to go along with us on a road trip. This includes a vacuum, spot clean and a wipe down with a germ killing wipe (especially on the door handles, steering wheel and all those buttons).

Tip two, a Good wash of the outside that includes cleaning up those tires and wheels.  The brake dust on these things can be a good indicator of how your brake pads are doing.  I also make sure to clean out the trunk and only keep the essentials like a spare and the tools to change that out.

Tip three, Now that your vehicle is as clean as its going to get. Inspect, inspect, inspect.  From every minor flaw to those that aren't know if it will cause any issues on the road.

Tip four, a chipped windshield is dangerous. A small chip can turn into a big issue and cause the glass to become weakened and shatter.

  • Think you can ignore a chip in your windshield? Think again! The windshield provides up to 30% of your vehicles structural integrity, and a chip smaller than 6 inches (or the size of a dollar bill) can easily be repaired by filling it with a special resin.
  • A chip could turn into a crack at any time, often when you are least expecting it. Windshield repair is often a safe and economical alternative to a full windshield replacement.
  • Scheduling a windshield chip repair is easy! Companies like Safelite AutoGlass provide mobile service – wherever your car is – often within 24 hours of your initial call.
  • Forget do-it-yourself repair kits. The resin could easily shrink or yellow, lowering the quality of the repair. Safelite AutoGlass uses a patented repair process… A vacuum is created over the damaged area and the resin penetrates and fills the finest micro-cracks. The technician pulls off the vacuum changer and the UV light hardens the resin. Safelite’s resin is proven to be the strongest and longest lasting on the market.

Tip five, check your tires the tread should be great.  Any bald spots pose a dangerous risk to a road trip.According to most states' laws, tires are legally worn out when they have worn down to 2/32" of remaining tread depth. Use a penny to check the tread of your tires grooves by putting it head first into the grooves. Lincoln's head should be covered by the tread this is approximately  a little over 2/32" depth.

Tip six, check your tire inflation.  Tires do deflate with time and did you know you get better gas mileage when they are inflated properly.

Tip seven, have your tires rotated and balanced.  This also makes for longer lasting tires and a smoother ride.

Tip eight, check your windshield wipers and fluid.  There is nothing more dangerous than driving in conditions that require the use of your wipers and fluid and either of them not working properly.

Tip nine, check your brakes if anything about braking isn't as it was before.  It is time to get them serviced.  Any squeak or vibration while driving is a cause for concern.

Tip ten, get your oil changed, if it has been a year you are in definite need of a change.  Or if you have gone 5,000 miles it is time to change your oil.   Check your owners manual as some vahicles need to be changed sooner or can go a little longer.

Verizon FiOS for my family and yours

I am so excited to learn about Verizon FiOS.  I am jealous of everyone who lives in an area that is Verizon Fios capable (are you).  Currently I am not, but I do live in the sticks and I am sure its a matter of time before we are a carrier.  I am going to be stalking my Verizon for an expected time frame.
The perks of going with Verizon Fios are endless.  This is a telephone, internet and television must have.
Who doesn't expect cutting edge technology in this day and age.  We are busy folks, who don't appreciate anything slow whether it's a connection, our service provider or the last of our friends to be in the know.  I am obsessed with the newest and best of everything there is that benefits my family and our daily lives.  If you are like me look no further.  Expect internet in a flash  with 100% fiber optic cable, a more weather resistant phone line, watch an on demand movie on your Fios television and your mobile phone with  flex view and how about a little social networking right from your television set.  Amazing, I know!!  It can all be done with a Verizon Fios subscription.

My family of five is not very easy to please.  I have a fifth grader who expects quality internet and television to keep him entertained.  From homework to his favorite television shows, he has a small window to get this all done before bedtime.  My husband works from home and spends half his day in front of the internet.  His favorite saying "time is money" which is why 100% fiber optic high speed connection is best.  I am a busy mom who looks forward to nap time.  Where I can sit back and enjoy a little time surfing the web or catching up on one of my fave television shows.  I don;t have a big window of opportunity so I look forward to lightning speed connections.  My almost three year old on the other hand can watch a movie with us before bedtime and catch the rest of it during the wait in the car pool line at school with the amazing flex view.

The possibilities and benefits are endless and the options are plenty.  For more info on any of the above points check out these videos. Internet, Television widgets,  flex view   and Watch this video of real kids talking about why FiOS is cool.

Top Five Favorite Summer Getaways

With a family of five it is very important to us that we make lasting memories for our children.  It is also a little harder to stretch our dollar with three kids, which makes for pretty interesting ideas on our part as parents.  Although I can say my kids come back from our mini getaways with memories to last a lifetime.  Here are my five favorite must do summer getaways.
Brody making a sand castle
A day at the beach is the perfect summer getaway.  Sand castles, running through the waves, collecting shells, digging your feet in the sand.  These are all memories to last a lifetime.  There are also so many free beach entrances that make for a very inexpensive day in the sun.  We spent four days on South Padre Island last summer with our family (6 adults and 8 children).  It's funny that the kids out number the adults.  The youngest was our one and a half year old son Brody.  He was not to sure about the ocean which was fine with me because I'm not the best swimmer.  He had a sensory issue, so the mushy sand and water was perfect for him.

Aiden, Brody and Me on the river

A night of camping comes in second for an amazing summer getaway.  At least one night, we are so spoiled by our everyday lives of television, air condition, fast food, that when we decided to take the boys camping I can honestly say it was the best decision we could have made last summer.  This was my husbands idea, mine was more of a cabin, ac, running water, you know the important things in life.  I agreed, because a mom of boys, I felt they deserved to ruff it and I guess I did to.  It was an awesome weekend.  We slept in a tent off a local river, went on an adventure {a small hike}, made a fire and roasted marshmallows, and even played in the lake after we caught no fish.  It was great and our oldest still talks about it.  The two days on the river brought the four of us closer together, and that made it amazing.

The boys at the wildlife ranch

Who says a summer getaway can't be a stay-cation. My third favorite summer getaway is a day at the wildlife ranch.  We have an amazing one 20 minutes away.  Most animals can be hand fed which is way cool.  Have you ever fed a zebra?  I have that picture in my archives, I must find it and show you how amazingly huge those teeth are.  Watching a two year old chunk food into a buffaloes mouth is also pretty priceless.

Me and Aiden in the cavern

My fourth favorite vacation is taking your kid into an underground cavern.  Can we say amazing and scary all rolled into one.  We loved the adventure of our forty-five minute tour.  We even watched bats excavating that was probably the scary part since we were within touching distance.  My son loved it even though he screamed.

Aiden and Lauren lost on the bridge

My fifth favorite vacation has to be is taking a trip to a new city.  Armed with a map we enjoyed a day of visiting all the hot spots San Antonio had to offer.  I am from there, but my son had never experienced the city especially the amazing sites that the downtown area has to offer.  We soaked in the cultures of the south, enjoyed a tour of the Alamo, and even took a trip up to the Tower of Americas.

Concussion Awareness Do you know enough to keep your child safe?

How in the know are you when it comes to your child getting a concussion?  Are you aware of the seriousness of an accident that involves a Traumatic Brain Injury?  Did you know that almost half a million emergency visits for Traumatic Brain Injury that occur each year are among children aged 0 to 14 years.   Scary, I know I can't imagine what runs through a parents head when you are faced with such a life threatening accident.

I have never personally witnessed someone get a concussion. But I have heard friends and family say "don't let them fall asleep" after someone has been hurt and hit their head.  I am embarrassed to say that this is not the information that will keep my own children safe.  I have not been educated on the importance of a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or concussion. With the help of The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s I feel more at ease, especially since I am the mother of three boys ten, two and a newborn. And even more serious my ten year old spends countless hours practicing and playing little league while my two year old is almost always nearby.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) has a great Heads Up program to learn more initiatives and to order your own materials, visit http://www.cdc.gov/concussion.

A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury—or TBI—caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth. This sudden movement can literally cause the brain to bounce around or twist in the skull, stretching and damaging the brain cells and creating chemical changes in the brain. What you might not know is that these chemical changes make the brain more vulnerable to further injury. During this window of vulnerability the brain is more sensitive to any increased stress or injury, until it fully recovers.  Children and teens are more likely to get a concussion or TBI and take longer to recover than adults.

If you believe a child is a victim of a concussion or TBI follow these rules:
1. Keep your teen out of play. If your child or teen has a concussion, her/his brain needs time to heal. Don’t let your child or teen return to play the day of the injury and until a health care professional, experienced in evaluating for concussion, says he or she is symptom-free and it’s OK to return to play. A repeat concussion that occurs before the brain recovers from the first—usually within a short period of time (hours, days, or weeks)—can slow recovery or increase the likelihood of having long-term problems. In rare cases, repeat concussions can result in edema (brain swelling), permanent brain damage, and even death.

2. Seek medical attention right away. A health care professional experienced in evaluating for concussion will be able to decide how serious the concussion is and when it is safe for your child or teen to return to sports.

3. Teach your child or teen that it’s not smart to play with a concussion. Rest is key after a concussion. Sometimes athletes wrongly believe that it shows strength and courage to play injured. Discourage others from pressuring injured athletes to play. Don’t let your child or teen convince you that s/he’s “just fine.”

4. Tell all of your child or teen’s coaches and the school nurse about ANY concussion. Coaches, school nurses, and other school staff should know if your child or teen has ever had a concussion. Your child or teen may need to limit activities while s/he is recovering from a concussion. Things such as studying, driving, working on a computer, playing video games, or exercising may cause concussion symptoms to reappear or get worse. Talk to your health care professional, as well as your child or teen’s coaches, school nurse, and teachers. If needed, they can help adjust your child or teen’s school activities during her/his recovery. With that being said it is also important to keep your children safe before a concussion even occurs.  My best advice to staying safe:
  • Baseball fields are not a place to have your children not paying attention or listening.  Pop flies, foul balls, home runs and even a game of catch these are all dangerous for a child who is not paying attention.
  • Wearing the proper safety equipment i.e. helmets when riding a bike, skate boarding, etc...
  • playing outside without supervision is key for disaster keep your kids safe.  With older ones that don't need extra supervision how about having a window open to hear them in an emergency
  • Any physical activity requires the up most caution and  respect keep your kids safe and make them aware of the dangers

If you are a parent, coach, or athlete and have any thoughts I encourage you to share your stories or ask CDC questions at www.facebook.com/cdcheadsup.

My Classic Family Recipe

My all time favorite activity to do with my family is getting them in the kitchen with me.  It is way more enjoyable to have company when I cook in the kitchen.  The kitchen is a great place for my family to bond.  I spend endless hours in my kitchen daily and have finally found a favorite meal my entire family loves and looks forward to weekly. Not only does my entire family enjoy pizza night but they enjoy it more so when it is their turn to chip in.  A homemade slice of pizza paired with a tall glass of Coca-Cola is our families all time favorite meal.
My family can always agree on one thing, pizza.  I love anything homemade. So that's where our weekly homemade pizza night came to play many years ago.  Whoever helps in the kitchen gets to choose the toppings and I love knowing exactly what is going into our bellies.
The ingredients...

1 Ready to bake pizza dough (I find this in the freezer section)
4 Cups Cheese shredded I do a pizza blend & Mozzarella (we love plenty of cheese)
1/2 Cup traditional pizza sauce
Pepperoni Slices (or your favorite toppings)
Mushroom Slices (or your favorite toppings)
1 Cup flour (to roll out dough)

A cooking lesson easy enough for anyone.  My oldest loves getting in on the action and almost always is the designated pizza roller.
(He's going to make an amazing husband one day.)
This simple recipe requires only a few steps to create yummy goodness. We start by lightly spreading flour on the clean surface we will roll out the dough. I also dust the pin roller.  Next roll out the dough nice and evenly.  spread enough sauce to cover pizza up to half an inch to crust. Pile on cheese and add all of your favorite toppings.  And last baking your creation in the oven.  Easy peasy

My family of five all enjoy a homemade pizza and a tall glass of Coca-Cola. The perfect pair.  Pizza night has turned into my secret weapon for bonding with my family especially my oldest, who is growing up to fast. They enjoy pizza and coke more than anything. And I enjoy the extra time with my family more than anything.  It's definitely a win, win for us all.   The memories we make our priceless and I can't argue with that.

Extreme Couponer I am? NOT!

While I love coupons and do have a stock pile.  I am not an extreme couponer by any means. With all the chatter surrounding the Extreme Couponing show on TLC.  I cringed when I actually watched the newest episode.  Mind you I do give these couponers much respect, but seriously a grocery store trip longer then 1 hr is not realistic even if I was leaving with $500 + in items free.  My couponing consists of scoring free and cheap items and using anywhere from 2 at most 20 coupons in one transaction.   I love freebies and I love a good deal, but I also have a million other places I'd rather be than stressing about a huge coupon shopping spree.  Using even a few coupons can be stressful.  Getting the best deal and the lowest out of pocket is always my goal.

The Nostalgic Treat That is Peeps

Do you ever see or hear something that has such a nostalgic meaning to you.  I love when that happens, to reminisce of the good old days is pure bliss to me.
When I hear the name Peeps I think of my precious Great Grandfather.  He was by all accounts the sweetest man I have ever met.  I grew up visiting him all the time even though we lived hundreds of miles away.  Every Easter my brother and I looked forward to the treats he had waiting for us.  My mom was not fond of buying us much of anything that contained sugar.  So we were always eager to have our treats from our Great Grandfather.  A pack of peeps chicks was always our most favorite of all.  What kid doesn't love a sugar coated marshmallow. I loved peeling them apart so that they were no longer connected to their siblings. Oh, and eating them was so thought out and planned. Do you start with their heads first, start at the tail or plop the entire chick in your mouth.  Poor little guys we tormented them and enjoyed every minute of it.  My Great Grandfather loved them as much as we did.  I can still see him taking each chick down in one bite.  When my Great Grandfather past away the love of our little sweet treats didn't go away, but became a staple that my mom embraced.  I think she realized how amazing they were herself.  They were such a special and meaningful treat to all of us even today.   There was rarely any other treat besides peeps that my mom added to our basket, which we were perfectly content with.  And I had no idea peeps went beyond the yellow chicks. We had  all colors of chicks and bunnies.  Bunnies, yes they were our new found peeps.  We could spend endless time playing with these little bunnies and nibbling off their ears.  We ate those little guys all day long until our bellies hurt. It was pure joy.
A mother of three I enjoy making each their own special Easter Basket filled with peeps of course.  Peeps are the mascot treat of Easter in my family.  My boys  now enjoy the sweet treats of peeps. And U'm excited for them to read this and know just how special they are to me.

Little switches that make a difference

Have you ever changed something minor that makes a big difference.  We all know it's the little things in life that matter.  I thought long and hard about what little switches I could do to make a BIG difference in my life.  I have never really given much thought to how a few little switches are big differences waiting to happen.
I am a mother to three amazing boys and a wife to one amazing husband.  And just writing that sentence gets me thinking do they know how special and amazing I know they are.  Sure I put these four amazing human beings on a pedestal in my blog and thoughts.  But if it came down to it do they really know how I really feel.  A little switch here and there can make a big impression on these guys. My husband for one gets the least attention from me.  Like I said, I am the mother to not one but three boys.  He doesn't go unnoticed, but he does get the tired worn down wife who almost always falls asleep the second my boys are in bed.  He doesn't ask for much from me, but when he does ask me to do him a favor.  I must admit I usually don't jump with eager.  Actually I usually say sure and forget to do it all together.  How terrible of me, a little switch in making his requests part of my written "to do list" would go a long way.  A switch in putting the boys to bed an hour earlier twice a month would definitely give us more alone time.  I can already see a movie night that is not pg in my near future.  Reminding my children daily how special they are to me and letting them know that I am a proud mom no matter what is a daily task I plan to include in my nightly routine.
My boys get most of my attention, most of my time, and all of my energy.  Probably not the best for my husband and my relationship, but a few little switches will definitely bring us closer together.   And as for my boys even though they know I love them and my life revolves around them it is my duty as a mom to share my thoughts and let them know how I feel for them daily.  I am ready to make the little switches and make a big difference, are you?

What is one item you couldn't live without for more than a week...

and why?

I could think of a million items I would prefer to not live without. But seriously the one item I could not live without for  more than a week would have to be my HTC evo phone.  No other item has ever been such a huge part of my daily routine.  I do everything with it email, blog, facebook, tweet, play games, make important phone calls and the biggest of all keep my 2yr old entertained with kid friendly apps.

I love my HTC evo!
